The Commanders' Unit Library Program

The purpose of this program is to provide commanders with funds to establish and sustain their unit professional library when the utilization of appropriated funds is not practicable.

Libraries are the bedrock of our professional development effort. The program allows commanders to select books from the Marine Corps Association & Foundation’s extensive book list. The MCA&F book list contains the timeless military classics as well as recent books on emerging areas of interest in current military operations and cultural understanding.

The Commanders' Unit Library Program is administered based on the size of the unit. Current priority generally goes to deploying organizations and Marine units in remote locations.

Commanders are not limited to books on the Commandant's Professional Reading List but may choose other professional books as listed online at The Marine Shop. Multiple copies of the same book may be ordered.

Commanders may choose to administer the program centrally or allow subordinate units to apply for funding in their own right. For example, a battalion may choose to apply for a unit library for the entire battalion or to allow separate companies and batteries apply for their own library. Libraries are based on the calendar year and units may apply once a year.

To request a unit library please use the Request Form for Commanders' Unit Library

All,

Thank you so much again for your support in giving us the books. We have not

yet had the opportunity to implement the books into regular PMEs but had the

opportunity today to talk about the book program to a group of Marines who

were using our auditorium in our building.

One of the Public Affairs Marines was on hand so we took the opportunity to

talk about what the Marine Corps Association does in terms of providing

books to units.  The Marines who were present today were attending a local

Military Police course aboard MCAS Miramar.

Good Day Sir,

Just wanted to send you a quick note expressing our thanks for the shipment
of PME books that arrived at our location today. The unit is currently
engaged in reading and discussing "The Last Stand of Fox Company" as the
professional reading component of an overall professional development
program, but this new selection of books generously provided by Marine Corps
Association and Foundation members (a group that I am proud to be part of)
and patrons of your retail establishments will definitely expand the scope
of where our reading program can go in the future!

Attached is a photo we took today with a few of the books that you sent to
us, bolstering our unit library a great deal.

Thanks again, and Semper Fidelis.

V/R,

Captain Gary J. Sampson, USMC
Commanding Officer
Company A, Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion
Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora, Colorado

Sir,
I wanted to let you know that we received the books from the Marine Corps Association Foundation and that we appreciate them very much.  They were a great addition to our newly established Center of Excellence.  A space dedicated to inspiring Marines towards education, teamwork, leadership and professionalism.  We are sending out a formal thank you to the association, but I wanted to advise you that we received the books and tell you how much we appreciate them along with sending along couple photos.

Many thanks from Team 26 and Semper Fidelis, SgtMaj T.M. Parisi
