Fresh recruits out of boot camp are officially welcomed to the Corps on their new birthday.
When USMC supporters donate through the Marine Corps Association Foundation, they have an opportunity to thank the recruits for choosing to serve.
The Marine Corps Association & Foundation delivers celebratory cards to the new Marines with personalized messages from the donors. Many of the donors have loved ones who serve in the Corps or are veteran Marines themselves.
“This is a way for donors to connect with new Marines and welcome them to the Corps,” said Stacey Churchill, MCA&F Director of Foundation Individual Donor Development. “We’re hoping the donors see that their donation has a direct impact on our programs, all of which directly support active-duty Marines.”
MCA&F West Coast Area Representative SgtMaj Frank Pulley, USMC (Ret.) hands out hundreds of the welcome cards to recruits at Marine Corps Recruiting Depot San Diego. He said the cards also impact the Marines’ family members’ first impression of the Corps.
“It really goes a long way not only with the young Marine, but with the parents as well,” Pulley said. “It symbolizes a connection and drives home the point that the Marine Corps is a brotherhood and a family. The family members see the generations before and it’s really a commitment to the past, today and the future. The families truly appreciate it.”
