I would like to personally thank you and the Marine Corps Association for providing the detachments of Region 5, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group with books through the Marine Corps Association. Passed as a “Best Practice” during our Spring Conference, the detachments have been encouraged to build their professional reading libraries over the past six months. With each visit I realized the value added to each detachment and each Marine as we discussed “Brilliance in the Basics” from The Passion of Command. I watched the detachment libraries grow from drugstore paperback novels to a robust collection from the Commandant’s Reading List. We are a better unit as a result of the MCA’s program.
I recently tasked the Detachment Commanders who haven’t already obtained a copy of The Passion of Command (about 7-10 Marines) to do so for our next conference in September. You may see a spike in demand for this book. I felt it was necessary to provide fair warning.
