Sir (MajGen Edward Usher),
I wanted to thank you and the Marine Corps Association for the tremendous support we have received over the past many weeks. Our Command Post Dedication Ceremony was a momentous occasion for all in attendance, particularly the many veterans of the 1st Marine Division. Colonel Ford played a huge role in that by helping gather and make available a large number of pictures of 1/1 in action over the years which now adorn our new CP. We are also very thankful for the art prints of Iwo Jima and Belleau Wood that were donated by MCA in recognition of the ceremony. These are also proudly displayed on our walls as you enter the building, and we will be purchasing small plaques to recognize that they were donated by MCA.
I also recently received word that the request we submitted for professional reading materials through the Commander's Professional Library Grant Program was approved. I cannot express how happy we are to receive this support. Although the battalion maintains an aggressive reading program, it does not possess the funding to establish a sizeable library to support it. The reading materials items MCA provides immediately solves this problem and gives our young Marines the tools they need to enhance their professional development.
I sent two Letters of Apprecation to MCA today to recognize the Association's outstanding support which should be arriving in the coming week. On behalf of all the Marines and Sailors here at the "First of the First", thank you again. Semper Fidelis.
