Dear Col Keenan,
On behalf of the Marines and Sailors of 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, I would like to thank you for your support in helping us to establish our unity library. We are lucky to have a world class facility, newly constructed by a joint Marine Corps and Special Operations Command MILCON effort. Our Academic Instruction Facility contains a library room complete with book shelves and reading tables, but no books. Without your assistance and the backing of the Marine Corps Association our efforts would have taken several years to put together a useful library. We are now better able to support the professional development of our Marines, Sailors and civilians. Our growing experience in special operations has reinforced the imperative of instilling an understanding of complex dynamics in our front line leaders with the ultimate goal of growing our young Marines into wise leaders. Reading continues to compliment the development of critical thought and reflection demanded in our profession as Marines.
Since its formation in 2006, 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion has made worthy contributions to our nation’s defense. It is exciting to be part of MARSOC during these early years and especially now our Commandant seeks to build complimentary relationships between Marine special operations and the Marine Air Ground Task Force. Our Marines and Sailors are committed to honoring the legacy of our Corps and continuing to contribute to the tradition of honor and valor.
