ati physical therapy east longmeadow: Cystogenesis Jong Hoon Park, Curie Ahn, 2016-10-12 Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) is a highly prevalent hereditary renal disorder in which fluid-filled cysts are appeared in both kidneys. Main causative genes of ADPKD are PKD1 and PKD2, encoding for polycystin-1 (PC1) and polycystin-2 (PC2) respectively. Those proteins are localized on primary cilia and function as mechanosensor in response to the fluid flow, translating mechanistic stimuli into calcium signaling. With mutations either of PKD1 or PKD2, hyper-activated renal tubular epithelial cell proliferation is observed, followed by disrupted calcium homeostasis and aberrant intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP) accumulation. Increased cell proliferation with fluid secretion leads to the development of thousands of epithelial-lined, fluid-filled cysts in kidneys. It is also accompanied by interstitial inflammation, fibrosis, and finally reaching end-stage renal disease (ESRD). In human ADPKD, the age at which renal failure typically occurs is later in life, however no specific targeted medications are available to cure ADPKD. Recently, potential therapeutic targets or surrogate diagnostic biomarkers for ADPKD are proposed with the advances in the understanding of ADPKD pathogenesis, and some of them were attempted for clinical trials. Herein, we will summarize genetic and epi-genetic molecular mechanisms in ADPKD progression, and overview the currently available biomarkers or potential therapeutic reagents suggested.

ati physical therapy east longmeadow: Alligator Metabolism Studies on Chemical Reactions in Vivo Roland A. Coulson, Thomas Hernandez, 2014-05-17 Alligator Metabolism: Studies on Chemical Reactions in Vivo presents a summary of research in vivo on the metabolism of alligators. The volume contains updates of earlier investigations which were presented in Biochemistry of the Alligator, a Study of Metabolism in Slow Motion (1964). Since then, with the aid of better equipment and better methods, it seemed time to correlate and summarize the findings of researchers who have used this remarkable experimental animal with profit. The primary purpose of almost all the research was not to determine the nature of the alligator, but to understand biochemical reactions in vivo and the alligator was a means to that end. The book begins with a chapter on natural history for those scientists, wild-life experts, alligator farmers, zoo keepers etc., whose primary interest is in the nature and habits of the intact alligator. This is followed by separate chapters that deal with metabolic rate, anaerobic glycolysis, digestion-growth-protein synthesis, carbohydrate metabolism, amino acid metabolism, respiration and acid-base balance, and kidney function.
ati physical therapy east longmeadow: Augustine's Commentary on Galatians Eric Plumer, 2003-02-07 Now available in English for the first time, Augustine's Commentary on Galatians is his only complete, formal commentary on any book of the Bible and offers unique insights into his understanding of Paul and of his own task as a biblical interpreter. Yet it is one of his least known works today - and this despite its importance in the past for such major figures as Aquinas, Luther, Erasmus, and Newman. The present volume seeks to remedy this situation by providing not only an English translation with facing Latin text, but also a comprehensive introduction and copious notes. Since Galatians happens to be the only biblical book commented upon by all the ancient Latin commentators - including Jerome, Pelagius, Ambrosiaster, and Marius Victorinus, as well as Augustine - it provides a basis for comparing them and for identifying Augustine's special concerns and emphases. Augustine's Commentary also has crucial links to other works he wrote at the time, especially his monastic rule and De Doctrina Christiana. Augustine's emphasis on Galatians as a pastoral letter designed to preserve and strengthen Christian unity links the commentary to his monastic rule, while his method and sources link it to, and indeed pave the way for, the theory of biblical interpretation set forth in the De Doctrina Christiana.

ati physical therapy east longmeadow: Women Like Us Erica Abeel, 1994 Women Like Us traces the lives of four women from their undergraduate days at Sarah Lawrence College in the late 1950s through the colorful and varied histories of their boyfriends, jobs, husbands, children, divorces, friendships, rivalries, failures, and successes to the present. It is a novel brimming with the lives of a group of women caught between two generations: too restless for the pieties of the fifties, too early for the revolution of the sixties. In rejecting Ben for the beautiful but feckless Gerrit, Daisy establishes a pattern of all for love that, despite her talent and intelligence, will haunt her life. Gina, the class square, focuses on her career rather than love. Franca's marriage collapses under the weight of children and her husband's experimentation with open marriage. Delphine, the leader of the clique, astonishes all by marrying before her graduation. Women Like Us captures the lives of a generation of women who at thirty were overtaken by the feminist revolution, when all the rules changed, and who have been running to catch up ever since. In the tradition of Marilyn French, Erica Jong, Judith Rossner, and Gail Godwin, Erica Abeel has written an unforgettable story; in it, every woman is sure to recognize something of her own life.--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
