Wordle 470: The Solution

Before we dive into strategies, let's address the elephant in the room – the solution to Wordle 470. The answer is SLATE. (Remember, if you haven't solved it yet, stop reading now to avoid spoilers!)

Optimal Starting Words for Wordle

Choosing the right starting word is crucial for maximizing your chances of solving the puzzle quickly. Many Wordle players swear by certain words due to their high letter frequency and strategic vowel placement. While there's no single "best" word, some popular and effective options include:

CRANE: This word covers a good spread of common consonants and includes the vowel "A."
SOARE: Similar to CRANE, but utilizes a different vowel combination.
ADIEU: A good option if you want to test out multiple vowels early on.

The key is to choose a word that allows you to gather maximum information in your first guess. Avoid words with repeated letters in your initial attempt, as this reduces the potential feedback.

Letter Frequency Analysis in Wordle

Understanding letter frequency is a powerful tool in Wordle. Some letters appear significantly more often than others in the English language. Knowing this can help you prioritize letters in subsequent guesses. For example, common consonants include R, S, T, L, N, and D. Vowels, of course, are crucial, with E, A, I, O, and U leading the pack. By incorporating this knowledge, you can strategically choose words that incorporate frequent letters, increasing your chances of finding the correct ones.

Eliminating Possibilities Through Strategic Guessing

Wordle is a game of elimination. Each guess provides valuable information that allows you to refine your possibilities. Pay close attention to the color-coded feedback:

Green: The letter is correct and in the correct position.
Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong position.
Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use this feedback rigorously. If you get a yellow letter, try placing it in different positions in your next guess. If you get a gray letter, eliminate it from your subsequent possibilities entirely. This process of elimination is the key to mastering Wordle.

Advanced Wordle Strategies: Beyond the Basics

Beyond basic letter frequency and elimination, seasoned Wordle players often employ more nuanced strategies:

Pattern Recognition: Look for patterns in the words you've already guessed. Are certain letter combinations common? Are there particular vowel patterns that seem to be favored?
Word Lists: Some players use pre-compiled word lists to aid in elimination. This can be helpful, but it can also slow down the gameplay.
Contextual Clues: Consider the possible meanings and connotations of the words you're guessing. This can help you narrow down the possibilities.

Common Wordle Mistakes to Avoid

Many players fall into traps while playing Wordle. Here are some common pitfalls to avoid:

Ignoring the color-coded feedback: Pay attention to the clues; they are your most valuable asset.
Guessing words with repeated letters early on: This can waste guesses and limit the information you gather.
Sticking to the same strategy every time: Be flexible and adapt your approach based on the feedback you receive.

Conclusion:

Mastering Wordle involves a blend of strategy, knowledge, and a bit of luck. By employing the techniques outlined in this guide, you'll dramatically improve your chances of solving the daily puzzle quickly and efficiently. Remember to utilize optimal starting words, analyze letter frequencies, eliminate possibilities strategically, and avoid common mistakes. Happy Wordling!

wordle 470: Diplomat Among Warriors Robert Murphy, 2022-06-19 “[E]ver until the end — he retired in 1959 — a ‘diplomat among warriors’... this was Bob Murphy’s very special role. I doubt if any other diplomat has ever had an equivalent one. A normal Ambassador is assigned to prevent war or make peace. Much of his diplomacy was the diplomacy of war itself. He was a devoted, first-class public servant, a worthy companion to the great soldiers he accompanied. His memoirs, which include a great deal of fascinating, new historical material, should be widely read.” — C.L. Sulzberger, The New York Times “This important diplomatic memoir provides a wealth of rewarding insights and information about recent events in American foreign relations... Murphy’s lucid and well-written volume will be of great aid to the scholar and of absorbing interest to the general reader.” — Daniel M. Smith, The Journal of Modern History “[Robert Murphy’s] autobiography is more than a personal memoir; it is, in fact, a vivid history of our Foreign Service from an understaffed and inefficient bureau to ‘the finest diplomatic instrument in the world’... It is an important book, consistently readable, and thoroughly deserving to be every bit as long as it is.” — Kirkus “Diplomat Among Warriors gives a substantial account of the author’s participation in the execution of American foreign policy over a period of four eventful decades, 1917-1958... The narrative is interesting, sometimes exciting, and it contains many insights, much soul-searching, and even a few revelations, particularly for the period after 1940. The incisive characterization of actions, actors, and the author’s experiences is more dramatic and revealing than a systematic history could be... Murphy is an unassuming man. But modesty cannot disguise the key role he played in some dramatic events of contemporary history. Diplomat Among Warriors is a warm human story, written with great charm, compassion, and lucidity. It is a useful source for historians and the narrative is fascinating to the general reader.” — Stephen D. Kertesz, The Review of Politics

wordle 470: Picasso and the Painting That Shocked the World Miles J. Unger, 2019-03-26 One of The Christian Science Monitor’s Best Nonfiction Books of 2018 “An engrossing read…a historically and psychologically rich account of the young Picasso and his coteries in Barcelona and Paris” (The Washington Post) and how he achieved his breakthrough and revolutionized modern art through his masterpiece, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. In 1900, eighteen-year-old Pablo Picasso journeyed from Barcelona to Paris, the glittering capital of the art world. For the next several years he endured poverty and neglect before emerging as the leader of a bohemian band of painters, sculptors, and poets. Here he met his first true love and enjoyed his first taste of fame. Decades later Picasso would look back on these years as the happiest of his long life. Recognition came first from the avant-garde, then from daring collectors like Leo and Gertrude Stein. In 1907, Picasso began the vast, disturbing masterpiece known as Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. Inspired by the painting of Paul Cézanne and the inventions of African and tribal sculpture, Picasso created a work that captured the disorienting experience of modernity itself. The painting proved so shocking that even his friends assumed he’d gone mad, but over the months and years it exerted an ever greater fascination on the most advanced painters and sculptors, ultimately laying the foundation for the most innovative century in the history of art. In Picasso and the Painting That Shocked the World, Miles J. Unger “combines the personal story of Picasso’s early years in Paris—his friendships, his romances, his great ambition, his fears—with the larger story of modernism and the avant-garde” (The Christian Science Monitor). This is the story of an artistic genius with a singular creative gift. It is “riveting…This engrossing book chronicles with precision and enthusiasm a painting with lasting impact in today’s art world” (Publishers Weekly, starred review), all of it played out against the backdrop of the world’s most captivating city.
wordle 470: Admissions Kendra James, 2022-01-18 NAMED A BEST NONFICTION BOOK OF 2022 BY ESQUIRE “[C]harming and surprising. . . The work of Admissions is laying down, with wit and care, the burden James assumed at 15, that she — or any Black student, or all Black students — would manage the failures of a racially illiterate community. . . The best depiction of elite whiteness I’ve read.”—New York Times A Most Anticipated Book by Vogue.com · Parade · Town & Country · Nylon ·New York Post · Lit Hub · BookRiot · Electric Literature · Glamour · Marie Claire · Publishers Weekly · Bustle · Fodor's Travel· Business Insider · Pop Sugar · InsideHook · SheReads Early on in Kendra James’ professional life, she began to feel like she was selling a lie. As an admissions officer specializing in diversity recruitment for independent prep schools, she persuaded students and families to embark on the same perilous journey she herself had made—to attend cutthroat and largely white schools similar to The Taft School, where she had been the first African-American legacy student only a few years earlier. Her new job forced her to reflect on her own elite education experience, and to realize how disillusioned she had become with America’s inequitable system. In ADMISSIONS, Kendra looks back at the three years she spent at Taft, chronicling clashes with her lily-white roommate, how she had to unlearn the respectability politics she'd been raised with, and the fall-out from a horrifying article in the student newspaper that accused Black and Latinx students of being responsible for segregation of campus. Through these stories, some troubling, others hilarious, she deconstructs the lies and half-truths she herself would later tell as an admissions professional, in addition to the myths about boarding schools perpetuated by popular culture. With its combination of incisive social critique and uproarious depictions of elite nonsense, ADMISSIONS will resonate with anyone who has ever been The Only One in a room, dealt with racial microaggressions, or even just suffered from an extreme case of homesickness.

wordle 470: Education for Extinction David Wallace Adams, 1995 The last Indian War was fought against Native American children in the dormitories and classrooms of government boarding schools. Only by removing Indian children from their homes for extended periods of time, policymakers reasoned, could white civilization take root while childhood memories of savagism gradually faded to the point of extinction. In the words of one official: Kill the Indian and save the man. Education for Extinction offers the first comprehensive account of this dispiriting effort. Much more than a study of federal Indian policy, this book vividly details the day-to-day experiences of Indian youth living in a total institution designed to reconstruct them both psychologically and culturally. The assault on identity came in many forms: the shearing off of braids, the assignment of new names, uniformed drill routines, humiliating punishments, relentless attacks on native religious beliefs, patriotic indoctrinations, suppression of tribal languages, Victorian gender rituals, football contests, and industrial training. Especially poignant is Adams's description of the ways in which students resisted or accommodated themselves to forced assimilation. Many converted to varying degrees, but others plotted escapes, committed arson, and devised ingenious strategies of passive resistance. Adams also argues that many of those who seemingly cooperated with the system were more than passive players in this drama, that the response of accommodation was not synonymous with cultural surrender. This is especially apparent in his analysis of students who returned to the reservation. He reveals the various ways in which graduates struggled to make sense of their lives and selectively drew upon their school experience in negotiating personal and tribal survival in a world increasingly dominated by white men. The discussion comes full circle when Adams reviews the government's gradual retreat from the assimilationist vision. Partly because of persistent student resistance, but also partly because of a complex and sometimes contradictory set of progressive, humanitarian, and racist motivations, policymakers did eventually come to view boarding schools less enthusiastically. Based upon extensive use of government archives, Indian and teacher autobiographies, and school newspapers, Adams's moving account is essential reading for scholars and general readers alike interested in Western history, Native American studies, American race relations, education history, and multiculturalism.

wordle 470: The Medieval Hospital Nicole R. Rice, 2023-04-15 Nicole Rice’s original study analyzes the role played by late medieval English hospitals as sites of literary production and cultural contestation. The hospitals of late medieval England defy easy categorization. They were institutions of charity, medical care, and liturgical commemoration. At the same time, hospitals were cultural spaces sponsoring the performance of drama, the composition of medical texts, and the reading of devotional prose and vernacular poetry. Such practices both reflected and connected the disparate groups—regular religious, ill and poor people, well-off retirees—that congregated in hospitals. Nicole Rice’s The Medieval Hospital offers the first book-length study of the place of hospitals in English literary history and cultural practice. Rice highlights three English hospitals as porous sites whose practices translated into textual engagements with some of urban society’s most pressing concerns: charity, health, devotion, and commerce. Within these institutions, medical compendia treated the alarming bodies of women and religious anthologies translated Augustinian devotional practices for lay readers. Looking outward, religious drama and socially charged poetry publicized and interrogated hospitals’ caring functions within urban charitable economies. Hospitals provided the auspices, audiences, and authors of such disparate literary works, propelling these texts into urban social life. Between ca. 1350 and ca. 1550, English hospitals saw massive changes in their fortunes, from the devastation of the Black Death, to various fifteenth-century reform initiatives, to the creeping dissolutions of religious houses under Henry VIII and Edward VI. This volume investigates how hospitals defined and defended themselves with texts and in some cases reinvented themselves, using literary means to negotiate changed religious landscapes.

And does the caller truly intend for the Swansby’s staff to “burn in hell”? As these two narratives combine, Winceworth and Mallory, separated by one hundred years, must discover how to negotiate the complexities of the often untrustworthy, hoax-strewn and undefinable path we call life. An exhilarating and laugh-out-loud debut, The Liar’s Dictionary celebrates the rigidity, fragility, absurdity and joy of language while peering into questions of identity and finding one’s place in the world.

wordle 470: What Kind of a Thing Is a Middle English Lyric? Cristina Maria Cervone, 2022-08-30 What Kind of a Thing Is a Middle English Lyric? considers issues pertaining to a corpus of several hundred short poems written in Middle English between the twelfth and early fifteenth centuries. The chapters draw on perspectives from varied disciplines, including literary criticism, musicology, art history, and cognitive science. Since the early 1900s, the poems have been categorized as “lyrics,” the term now used for most kinds of short poetry, yet neither the difficulties nor the promise of this treatment have received enough attention. In one way, the book argues, considering these poems to be lyrics obscures much of what is interesting about them. Since the nineteenth century, lyrics have been thought of as subjective and best read without reference to cultural context, yet nonetheless they are taken to form a distinct literary tradition. Since Middle English short poems are often communal and usually spoken, sung, and/or danced, this lyric template is not a good fit. In another way, however, the very differences between these poems and the later ones on which current debates about the lyric still focus suggest they have much to offer those debates, and vice versa. As its title suggests, this book thus goes back to the basics, asking fundamental questions about what these poems are, how they function formally and culturally, how they are (and are not) related to other bodies of short poetry, and how they might illuminate and be illuminated by contemporary lyric scholarship. Eleven chapters by medievalists and two responses by modernists, all in careful conversation with one another, reflect on these questions and suggest very different answers. The editors’ introduction synthesizes these answers by suggesting that these poems can most usefully be read as a kind of “play,” in several senses of that word. The book ends with eight “new Middle English lyrics” by seven contemporary poets.
